Above is a photo taken as a TTC Street car travels west-bound on Lake-Shore Boulevard West at the intersection of Royal York Road, located in South Etobicoke (Toronto), Ontario, Canada. (Toronto Transit Commission - TTC) while a would be Street Car rider is looking at their mobile device, stepping off the curb, not looking for any on-coming traffic, just... jumping in front of traffic BEFORE the street car has come to a complete STOP, signalling the ALL CLEAR to the rider to safely and efficiently board the TTC Street Car has been given.
Take The TTC Streetcar... and challenge the rules of the road claiming these are YOUR RIGHTS, argue your rights knowing they are also known as: YOUR DEAD RIGHTS and at this very second you're simply known as "dead wo/man walking". Arrogance kills.
Here are the common sense rules "as I see them" for safely boarding and de-boarding a TTC Street Car.
1/ NEVER walk / run / stroll out onto the road to board a street car UNTIL, the Street Car has come to rest - ZERO movement.
Look to see there is NO vehicular traffic proceeding through this zone. That's Car's, Truck's, Scooters, Motorcycles, Bicycles... anything that can and will bring personal harm to you physically and/or death.
(Just a suggestion, GET OFF YOUR MOBILE DEVICE)
2/ Wait for the Street Car operator to initiate the all clear "side panel lights" are flashing indicating the doors for entering and exiting are OPENING
3/ NOW, after ensuring all is clear, step off the curb (or boarding platform) and walk to the OPEN door, of your choice, safely, efficiently and have your fee/fare tool for payment to board ready, step into the Street Car, pay, and either take a seat, or stand where there is room.
Hold tight so you don't fall over and when you arrive at your destination and are ready to EXIT, follow the EXIT rules.
(Just another suggestion WAIT… allowing those EXITING to FIRST EXIT the Street Car! Before boarding the Street car.)
4/ EXIT only when the Street-Car has come to a complete STOP. Wait for the Operator to OPEN the doors and ensure you LOOK BEFORE EXITING to ensure ALL vehicular traffic has come to a complete STOP or ZERO Movement.
If you see something, say something. "Look mommy, is that a real live moron?"
Enjoy your day.
