The Comedy Bar East - Week 8 & The Showcase... 7:00 p.m. Bring it!

We've touched on many subjects in the past 8 weeks. We're given an assignment for the next week, develop a 2 minute rant, , next week, story telling, week after, hosting, next week, bring your 5-7 set... so you get up and try out your stuff, 2 - 3 min bits, 5 - 7 min run of your bits, video tape ourselves, self critique, and receive great feedback from Rebecca and your fellow students; by the way... big thanks to my classmates, the two Chris's, Scott, Leslie, Seonaid, Jenell, Anne, Elizabeth, Dave S, and Jack Z...

But now it's time to have written and tried out our material, video taped ourselves - a hideous and archaic procedure, to watch yourself while delivering YOUR brand of funny and CUT the bad, KEEP the good, and make the good great. Now you have a 7 minute bit

Now you make more bits. Now you develop your own act.... Corporate? Day Time or Night time audience? Who is your market?

It's torture.... OR.... it's my lifeline to my success by watching myself on video tape.

Next action? Stage time. I am not a night person. Comedy clubs in the morning? Lunch comedy.... no dinner, no evening shows, no weekends.... Hahahahah. Sure Dave. Wednesday is travel day to be on stage for Thursdays to Sunday matinees. Sunday afternoon - evening, head to home base, or next tour stop.

So much to hone. I need to evaluate my own content, the context of my own humour... is it funny to others? How is it met? How did I speak? Mumble? Clearly. How do I stand? How do I present myself to an audience? Am I approachable and what is my approach?

School is a safe place to learn some new techniques, but now, I need to be out at clubs testing the material... working the craft, the process... evolve the material until it's a polished piece. Here's one I want to make great... My Eye Doctor.
