When golfers talk about the game of golf being mainly a mental game... many will not seek help to learn the mental aspects of the game of golf simply out of a long standing misunderstanding of how the mental game is actually defined, categorized, understood, and taught, and at what levels. The contempt for the mental game, prior to investigation is what holds every golfer back.
In this article, I clear away many misconceptions, and offer places golfers can get help. Either in the form of self-help, on-line learning - at your own pace, your own needs, or attending a face-to-face Coach, or licensed Counsellor.
So, once again, there is a huge misunderstanding as to what is being referred to when someone says; I need help with my mental game. Help? Where, who, how, when, what - electric shock treatment, new drug, have a pet for a caddie? Be the first to have a Llama as a caddie. What club? And it spits in your face. This is considered good luck in some parts of the world. (No, I just made that up - see - humour)
Some believe perhaps the answer lays deep within past Trauma's? Wetting the bed, or wetting your pants when asked a question in school? Ahhhh, so the sports psychologist will help take me back in time to discover the source of my problem for always going in the water? It's because my "balls" love feeling wet, and damp, and warm, or cold, along with a smell of ammonia?
No. That's not what we're talking abut when finally getting help for the mental game of golf.
Geeezus what's wrong with you?
